Greenleaf Biofuels

Greenleaf Biofuels provides renewable energy alternatives to Americans who value the preservation of our natural environment and the freedoms provided by our national security. Specifically, the mission of Greenleaf Biofuels is to rapidly develop the demand for, and supply of, biodiesel in the northeastern U.S. Biodiesel is an alternative to petroleum middle distillate fuels and is made from vegetable oils such as soy bean, mustard seed, rapeseed (canola) and sunflower seed.

Because the primary feedstock for biodiesel is a biologically-based oil that can be grown season after season, biodiesel is renewable and thus offers a sustainable energy source. Biodiesel is non-toxic and biodegradable, and produces significantly less emissions than petroleum diesel. Biodiesel can be used in any application where on-highway, off-highway and marine diesel is being used today, with little or no modifications. More importantly for the Northeast, where home heating oil accounts for fifty five percent of petroleum distillate fuel consumption, biodiesel can be used as a substitute for home heating oil. Biodiesel can be blended with these petroleum distillates in any percentage and distributed through the existing infrastructure and supply lines.

We, the founders of Greenleaf Biofuels, are passionate about what we do. We are committed to making our nation a cleaner, safer place for future generations. We want to empower Americans to make intelligent choices about their energy consumption. Whether you’re a tree-hugging liberal or a national security hawk, we think you should stand up and be counted as a biodiesel consumer. Why?

Glaciers are melting. Coral reefs are dying. Global warming is a phenomenon few can refute. There is international scientific consensus that over the last 50 years humans have contributed to, in fact caused, the greatest climate change our planet has seen in one thousand years. Until we curb our appetite for petroleum fuels, we will not see a dramatic decrease in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions – the most important anthropogenic greenhouse gas. While innovations such as hybrid powered vehicles and catalytic conversion of exhaust gases have led to advances in efficiency and reduced emissions, the real environmental impact must come from alternative fuels. With their clean emissions profiles, biofuels such as biodiesel are the clear answer.

Even global warming cynics can appreciate the energy independence offered by domestically produced biofuels. The U.S. economy is, at present, inextricably tied to foreign sources of oil. In fact, while U.S consumption has increased four percent over the past three years, our domestic production has decreased and our dependence on foreign oil has increased. Politicians on both sides of the aisle acknowledge that U.S. military operations in the Middle East would not be so critical were it not for our dependence on Persian Gulf oil supplies. With demand for oil surging in rapidly developing economies like China and India, global power struggles to control the flow of oil can only increase. We enjoy great agricultural abundance in the U.S., and by developing home-grown alternatives to petroleum we can gain significant energy independence and enhance our national security. Wouldn’t you rather spend your hard-earned dollars on biofuel from the Midwest rather than petroleum from the Middle East?
